The Drink: Revolution Brewery's Very Mad Cow Milk Stout
The Place: Revolution Brewery, Chicago IL
The Art:  Watercolor Ink, Micron Pens, Copic Markers on Bristol board

After so much wine and tea, a beer can be a most excellent change for drinking and reviewing alike~  This 22oz bomber hails from local Chicago brewery, Revolution Brewery Co.  Revolution opens the doors to both their brew pub -- with prix fixe beer pairings and multiple brews on tap -- and their warehouse brewery, where you can sit at a bar and order from specialty draft beers while canning and bottling goes on in the vast space behind you.  Mere miles from each other, either Revolution location is worth checking out for a different experience, and a cool pull of local craft beer.

Go ahead and get out a laugh at the sight of this dark stout in my favorite wine glass, then read on for some seriously strong stuff.  This chocolatey dark stout is brewed with lactose to give it a slightly sweet edge, and then aged in bourbon barrels to yield an impressive 9.7% abv.  The bourbon was overwhelming for me right off the bat, and started each sip out with a sharp burn I could do without.  But the full, dark-stout flavor, along with suggestions of chocolate and coffee, lingered longer and made for an enjoyable aftertaste.

Also, once you get past your giggles at my choice of glass, check out the limited edition box that came with the bottle!  Glossy, textured card stock was reminiscent of tree bark, plus each box comes printed with a detailed flavor profile, and the run number out of the limited 5,000 bottles capped.

Moving on to the art of the night, I used my Dr Ph Martins Watercolor Inks to create a deep purple stain, left to dry overnight.  Sketch mock up , to ink blot placement, to line art created around the stains with Micron Pens.  My sketch claims this is going to be a Pinot Noir, but I think I might change my mind and make it a Malbec.  Hmm . . .
Now I'm in the mood for wine again ~

Till Wednesday~
