Like before, I let wine guide me with some Bristol I had stained with a wine-colored watercolor paint. However, with wine being so prevalent recently, I thought to create a series of illustrations with the intention of creating a wine bottle label. I once again used Micron colored pens, in pink, red, purple, and blue. The wine-stain was made using Dr PH martins Watercolor Inks. No wine was harmed in the process of this artwork ~
Here are the first drafts of the front, back, & neck labels for a bottle of Merlot wine~!
When working on the first illustration, I wanted the hummingbirds to look like they were absorbing the color from the wine stains. In the second illustration I focused mostly on line, giving the hummingbird just the slightest bit of color coming from out the the flower. In the neck label, I reversed materials, making the bird watercolor and the wine-stain line art. The name Trinity comes from the three wine stains, hummingbirds, and levels of hair on the front label illustration.
Oh, and I love the Matrix.
