"Be Still" came to me as I sat in Big Shoulders, a coffee shop here in Chicago which (true to it's name) let me rest a moment and carried some of my woes on its big shoulders made of coffee and soft, eclectic background noises.
This work was drawn directly in ballpoint pen with no pencil underline. Built up as I observed my own two hands holding my -- very tasty!-- cardamom latte, I elected to include the realism of my veins, the chipped polish decking my nails, and the scars on my palms, while also incorporating the surreal elements of a type-laden beverage and the impressionistic rendering of the background.
This design is available for purchase as a gorgeous print via Society6, as well as a pretty awesome phone case for those who might want a reminder to not pick up their phone, to stay in the moment, and to Be Still. Illustration Main Page -> |
