"Where there is Love, there is Life" Watercolor and ink illustration, with hand-drawn typography.
This piece was created 100% traditionally, inspired by the wet ring-marks of two cups of Fernet-Branca liqueur. After the muted-orange rings dried, bird and branch elements were placed, then finalized with perpendicular birch trees and softened leaves in the background. The type was placed last, worked around the pre-existing composition and inked in a dark sepia pen. I value both planning, and spontaneity in my works. The uncertainty of making unguided stains on paper ; the exciting rush of letting ideas grow and blossom in my mind faster than I can get them on the page ; the joy and pride of crafting shapes and composing lines into a finished piece. The time spent with it, developing it, is just as important as the finished piece.
