The Hasty PastryA colorful, episodic-style graphic novel about a girl named Cat, and her dog -- Pugsly -- who work at The Hasty Pastry bakery together. As you might guess, one of them does more work than the other: Cat's trying her hardest to become a manager, but her customers are crazy, her boss is kind of a jerk, and Pugsly won't stop eating all of the pastries! Through various shenanigan-filled stories, including stand-alone mini strips and multi-page arcs, The Hasty Pastry takes the reader through a customer service coming of age story.
This full color, 100 page graphic novel is told mostly in monochrome pink -- the defining color of our heroine, Cat. But each character takes on their own color indicative of their personality. Additionally, the word bubbles interact with the characters as a three dimensional object, pushing characters out of frame, overlapping to create new shapes, and breaking the traditional form of a comics word. The product of a successful Kickstarter, a College Grant, and peppered with pin-up contributions from 6 other Chicago artists.
